Maria Menounos

In the course of caring for her mother, suffering from stage 4 cancer of the brain, Maria realized she was facing the possibility of a health issue in her own. In February 2014 Menounos started experiencing troubling symptoms. In the cover story in PEOPLE Menounos discusses how she experienced headaches and lightheadedness on sets. "My speech became slurred. Also, I had difficulty reading the Teleprompter." An MRI found Menounos to be suffering from a massive meningioma brain tumour that had grown up to the size of a golf ball. It was pushing on her facial nerves. Menounos scheduled an appointment with her mother's doctor, the renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Keith L. Black, and they scheduled surgery for June 8th, her 39th birthday. The doctor told her that, "I am 98 percent sure that it's benign but we will not know until we go into the," Dr. Black managed to eliminate 99.9 percent of benign tumors during complex procedure that took 7 hours. According to Dr. Black, there is an opportunity of 6-7 percent of the tumor recurring. "But I'll take those odds any time." Menounos has returned home from a six-day stay in hospital. She is currently recuperating and spending her time with Litsa as well as her mother. Litsa's most recent MRI confirms that she's still free of cancer. Maria Maria Maria
